1111 Aliexpress Sale

Postby bdosborn » Tue Nov 10, 2020 9:58 am

Apparently, 1111 i not only Veterans day but it's also a big sale day on Aliexpress. That site's not for everyone but you might check it out if you think you might want to build a LiFePo4 battery. I'll be pulling the trigger on 400a-hrs of CALB cells for $850. Yup, 4 times the capacity and costs less than a single a Battleborn. It won't get here till February but that's fine, I don't need them right away. Here goes nothing...

Putting a washer and dryer in the new van? ;)

Keep us posted on the battery build when you get it. I'm curious.

I'm toying with the idea of using a household 120V fridge rather than a 12V version in the van. I'll need a bigger battery to cover the lower efficiency and inverter loses. I like CALB cells, here's the ones I'm getting.
CALB on Aliexpress

Building the battery is a piece of cake, now that I know how to do it.

 More and more off-grid cabin folks are opting for a new efficient residential fridge along with upgraded lifepo4 battery capacity instead of buying the traditional off-grid propane or DC only fridges that are made in limited numbers and are much more costly. We also added a few more PV panels and now have three arrays aimed in three directions; E, S, W. Three charge controllers too, but we are happy with the results and now have a larger fridge than before. Even with some clouds we recharge quickly.

We have a small off grid cabin we built ourselves in the NM mountains; small PV solar system; 624 watts PV, Outback CC & inverter/charger ... http://countryplans.com/smf/index.php?topic=2335.0

If I was going off grid for a house I would do the top open chest freezer conversion to a fridge. I watched a video years ago where a guy did this, it used 1/4 of the electricity that a standard fridge used and had more storage. I wonder if they make a small enough chest freezer to make this work in a van. edit it looks like the 3.5 CF freezers would be a great size, basically 22 x 22 by 30 tall. Almost perfect to build in to a counter. if your counters are 22 deep, mount a piece of counter top on it and it would disappear visually. Now can you live with a 3.5 CF fridge.
