Side Bowing

Postby Dahlia47 » Fri Nov 13, 2020 11:01 am

It's bowing slightly outward. Should I be concerned? It looks as tho he built the bottom half, then the top half. And it's bowing slightly where the bottom and top meet. My husband days not to be concerned, but I am a cautious person. Any ideas how to fix it? ImageImage

I would agree its because of the joint between the upper and lower wall. It could be braced from the inside and pulled back straigh, but no idea how that would look. Assuming the inside wall is not finish like the picture shows it should not be too bad.

I also agree as long as it does not make the structure "shakey" it should be okay. But I could see where if its not solid how it could fail.

It looks like 1/4" ply on the inside joint. If those pieces can be removed (ie. not glued just screwed on) you can bridge that joint with new ply. That will make it stronger and may help the bow.

The reason I used 1/8" inside & outside on a 3/4" skeletonized frame, so far so good. Typically, a straight board, plywood stringer or reinforcement is used across a seam (see plywood roof construction & decking) to prevent buckling.
