I Need A Different Bed

Postby Dahlia47 » Wed Nov 18, 2020 11:39 am

The one thing I have not ever liked about our travel trailer is the bed. It is so so so hard on my back. I need something light, easy to work and make. Or if there is one on the market I can put together and put it in the travel trailer, even better! Anyone got any ideas?? I forgot it needs to be a bed/couch combo dealy.

It's going to difficult if not impossible to find a mattress that is comfortable for sitting as well as laying down for sleeping.

In our travel trailer, the dinette cushions are memory foam. It squishes down and is too soft for sitting. They feel great for sleeping when the dinette is converted to a bed; however, we rarely use it for that purpose. I've thought about replacing the memory foam cushions with a medium-firm foam. For sleeping, I would add a memory foam topper.

The amazon zinus green tea foam mattress used to be great for the 120 bucks they cost, they now cost more. But they are still nice for price.

I am mainly looking for a frame. I need it to be easy to fold someway into a couch and back into a bed. I will be adding a smart foam memory mattress.

Dahlia 47 I have a three section mattress . The foam is 5 inch's of high density and a 2 inches of memory laminated together. The only thing I would change for me personally would be going to only 1 inch of memory, I designed a drop floor in our build which the lid converts to a seat and 2 pc's of the 3 section mattress are utilized for the seat and back rest. The conversion is fine for sitting. It was a concern of mine that the cushion/mattress section would compress to much but have used a few times since I started using my TD this year and can't really say that it's been any problem.

Go to your local Upholstery shop. They should be able to get any firmness foam and any size/thickness.

The link below is my van build out. On the first page it shows both style beds I installed in the van. The sofa bed is the second one. Look the design over and see if it might work for you.
