Ground temps will stay warm for a while, ice will generally stay just above freezing temps if you go deep enough. I don’t deal with snow much, but I’d rather bring a cooler and boil some water vs digging around in the snow every time I wanted some water. But in a pinch, it “should” keep the water just above freezing temp.Tom&Shelly wrote:This idea would only work if you have snow, but I wonder if burying your water in a few inches would insulate it better than a cooler?
I say this because we had about 6 inches Fall Saturday night, and then the temperatures turned to single digits. When I finally shoveled out Monday (we're retired and have no place we need to be badly enough to rush that job!), I found the bottom of the driveway was still slushy mud. Granted, we'd had 50 degree days last week, and so the ground was still warm.
