Mick, are the Aussie "hours behind the wheel" rules similar to the states? I'm not sure what our current rules are (been away from driver log summaries for three decades now) but I think they are somewhere around eight or ten hours with mandated breaks and rig inspections.

Also not up to date on safety rates for truck drivers here but I think that the overall safety of truck drivers is pretty good these days.

Boy the English think of every thing..that tickles me the sleep at the wheel monitors...slow..
Plans. there was supposed to be plans to be followed when I built this thing. Opps! AH, gee, tum,tee tum. I think I forgot about the plans 2 years ago. ------Tow vehicles, 1995 ford explore, 1994 ford ranger, 1993 ford F-150, 2009 4x9 Off road teardrop, on harbor freight greatly modified frame.

About 11 or 10 hours for us in the states than you gota have a 10 hour reset acrooding to the dot on hours of service...70 max in a week than its 30 or 33 hours off now they got the computure that will shut the truck engine down in a hour if you don't pull over...slow

Can drive 14 hours per day if you've done the fatigue management course, 12 otherwise.
144 hours in any 14 day period. So 12 x 12 hour days or 10 x 14 hour days basically.
Must log 7 hours in the bunk.

Port Adelaide to Olympic Dam is about 355 miles.
When he was running the smaller truck and could get all the way in to the Port without unhooking anything, he could just about run up to the mine from Port Augusta, discharge the cargo, load copper and get her in to the Port in a 14 hour day. Helped if everything was loaded, fueled and ready to go. 525 miles at maximum 55 miles an hour. Plus loading, unloading, fueling, etc.
But that is not his normal gig.
Normal is Port Augusta to the mine, its only about 170 miles. They have smaller trucks bringing the stuff up to the Gutter, then they put the trains together, drag the freight to the mine, unload whatever they are carrying and load up with copper metal for the trip back. That's normally a 12 hour day, but can take longer if something goes wrong at the mine or on the road. Usually the delays are at the mine. Might take hours to unload, and it counts against your allowable time.
These days, if they have anything go wrong with the truck, they aren't allowed to fix it themselves. They have to call base who send out the mechanics.
It'll be interesting how this new one shapes up - the old rig was tankers of powder, pneumatically conveyed. This one looks like she just drops it out the side. I'll find out next time he's home.

Indeed we do, though I was well into my twenties before I owned a car with km on the dial instead of mph.
I'm comfy with either measurement system, so I use miles when I remember - just a small courtesy to US readers.

Passed this prime mover running bobtail on the highway the other night. When I got back to town, there she was parked out front of one of the local motels.
Brand spanking new.
No bull bar, no mudgards.
Definitely tri-drive, I could see the shafts connecting the diffs.
Gorgeous, even if it is pink.
And boy was it ever PINK.

Well now, imagine having to be the tire tech doing the balance and rotation on that thing!

Well, you say 3/4 of a mill responsibility given to a 28 year old... I think typical fighter jet pilots are younger and those things are a LOT more expensive!

Seriously though, pretty cool job for such a young guy. You don't see those multi trailer rigs here like that. Not sure if it was 2 or 3 max I have seen here.. Different states have different limits, but generally speaking, 3 max...

Never seen a Tri drive before. Pretty cool...

Sort of the opposite of TNTTT though...

Yep, for those who drive 'over the road' here in the contiguous States it is often said it's like driving through 48 different countries. They each have their own rules. Anyone dragging triples down the road likely has 28' trailers. I don't know of a state (or one of those 'Provinces' up north, eh?) that allows more than two 53' trailers, though several western states could easily handle it.
