Fenders for Benroy

Postby Gsaunders » Thu Dec 16, 2021 7:19 pm

Hey from the great state of Oklahoma, I am new on here and have been lurking reading and learning for about 2 years now. I am about 3-4 months from retirement and I am planning on building 5 x 8 Benroy.

I plan on building this on a 5 x 8 Northern trailer. I do not like the look of the standard fenders that come with the trailer. I have saw Benroys with what looks like old fenders off of cars, does anyone know if these are after market or at least what type of vehicle they came off of. If I can't find any for sale, I plan on fabricating them from wood. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the info. I have all the tools to make some wood ones out of slats, which I might do any way, since I am thinking about going all wood on it, if I decide to go aluminum for the skin, I might use his method. I like the shape of the fenders in this video, so I will probably use that style.

I built my fenders out of wood. Trailer has about 25k miles on it. The fenders held up great just needed repaint because the dirt roads sand blasted the old paint off.

If your thinking of swooped fenders off 1930’s era cars maybe contact Grant Whipp.
I understand he’s active on farcebook.
Years ago he asked me to pick up a new pair from his brother in either southern Oregon or Northern California just east of I-5 by a small airport.
We were on our way to Shasta Dam gathering.
From what I remember his brother made them.
You might do a search here for Grant and see if he would respond to a PM.
If you’re looking for fenders like in my signature photos I got them at six Robblies and had them chromed.
Good luck, :D Danny

These are the mini Kit Style Fenders from Aero Teardrops in Portland OR. The molds were acquired by AT from the RW Johnson company who offered them for many years. They are currently made to order.

These are the mini retro fenders that Grant Whipp offered before his retirement. The molds were purchased by Frank Bear at Vintage Technologies. Frank has been unable to continue production as of this time.
