In bygone years, leather was often used for buggy tops, and has been used on early car tops. Since the 20’s cloths and vinyl has been more commonly used. I think a leather-covered TD would be really cool, but a PITA to do properly and to maintain. If I were to consider a project like that, I would make sure that my substrate was completely waterproof BEFORE applying a leather cover! Accounting for shrinkage would be a big deal, and you would need to have deep pockets to store and maintain the rig. A climate controlled storage area, for instance.
I'm a happy man, I love my life!
