I am stranded at the moment about 1,050 miles into the trip. Bike died while I was going about 60mph on a secondary paved road. No cell signals or etc. Seems to be electrical. A good Samaritan trailered me to a hotel South of Nashville. Got it started after with my emergency battery pack after isolating the battery. Going to get a new battery in the morning, hopefully. A few auto parts store nearby the motel. Appears to have just shorted out. No fuses blown and battery's was hot. Hopefully it wasn't a secondary failure. I have never seen a battery fail like that. All part of the adventure.

Maybe you can get it right back out there then if you get a battery..
I know you're losing time, but enjoy the down time and relax.. you're gonna need it.
 for the good Samaritans we have in the world.. they have helped us out different times on the road.
Good luck with getting it fixed and back on the road..
Stay safe, David

Thanks. I got a battery this morning and it appears to have fixed it. The old battery measured 9V at O'Reillys which I think is due a shorted cell. It appears the KTM-690R ECU just shuts everything down if the voltage gets too low. The fault code I read out indicated a low voltage failure. Have ridden a 100 miles on the new battery and output of magneto is 14.6V, so I think all is well , thankfully. Going back in the woods!

Not sure when I can do that yet. Having poor connectivity these days... but this is what you do when you have to get a hotel room in a sketchy part of a town due to lack of camping opportunities.

No way I was leaving my bike outside where I could not guard it better

Understandable about the updating...
Now as far as that hotel, I'm liking that interior look. How ya think that would work in the next CTC ???
At least your priorities are in the right place when it comes to that bike...

Crossed the Mississippi and stopped to sign the log book at the TAT stop in Trenton, Arkansas. Another 100 miles or so and we'll find a camp spot. Lots of dirt roads out here.

A very cool looking place to have a stop..
Did you happen to notice, how many people have signed that log book?
Just curious of how many people are doing this run?
Watch the heat, stay hydrated.

I've been away from the forum for a few months and I really regret not having seen this thread last week.

Don, it looks like you came within about 5 miles of my house on day 2 or 3 when you cut thru Tennessee from Linville Falls to Maggie Valley. I'm about 4 miles south of Flag Pond, and it would have been great to meet and chat for a few minutes.

Looks like a great trip ... bikes are about the only way to afford gas these days.
It's 5 o'clock somewhere ... time for a

Everything is going well. Battery did the trick. Bike is running well. I have a rear tire being delivered to a bike shop in Trinidad, Colorado from Rocky Mountain ATV. I will get there about the same time and will have it replaced and do some basic PM on the KTM before I head into the Rocky Mountains which will probably be my most challenging part. Had a blast today. Covered over 200 miles in Oklahoma offroad just ripping down dirt roads across the prairies. Having a good time until a free range cow stepped out and almost took me out. Lol

So happy to have the time and means to make this trip.
