Leveling Trailer

Postby Capebuild » Wed Jul 20, 2022 10:33 am

During a recent set up the trailer wound up on unlevel ground- both side to side (left side low)
and front to back (front end high, even with jack all the way down).
Curious as to how others handle leveling out the trailer during set up.

Thanks
John

also carry 3/4 'woods pads' along with a 'Camco Leveler Kit' in the tongue box, also have 2 rear trailer mounted stabilizer swing arms - combination of having 'all' this has been good for when some leveling has been needed. The 'Camco Leveler' can lift the trailer up to 4 inches if need be. (and takes up very little storage space inside the tongue box.... along with weighting very little being it is made of a HD plastic and can also be used as a extra wheel chock if need be - about $25/30 for one, last time I checked on Amazon)

We just pull the TD over wood blocks to level side to side, it doesn't have to be perfect.
I tried frame mounted levelers which were too much of a hassle.
Also tried those plastic leveling kits, a wood block is easier.
We don't fuss too much on leveling front to back as elevating the front some is better for heart burn etc.and, a good night sleep.
We've found most campsites to be pretty level.

thanks for the replies.

As others suggested, maybe I'll just start carrying some scraps of ply. This past trip the side to side was really off. Most camping sites I've ever been to are fairly level (my experience). This particular site,
not so much, and there were a number of trees on the site which prevented us moving the trailer to a more desirable spot on the site. I'll get more experience using my trailer and how to deal with these
little things that pop up......
just wanted to see what others do.

Thanks

John, plywood won't stand up to the weight of the TD and ground moisture.
I use2"x6"x12" pieces of lumber, bull nose all the edges with a router and paint bright yellow so as not to forget them on departure.

I've been using the same Lynx levelers for years.

I have always used a two-block system for lateral leveling. I can use one or both. They are keyed together with a couple of short dowels.

As far as the front to back, if the jack can't go low enough, I get the shovel out and dig a hole under it.

We copied Tony's blocks. We use them at maybe 80% of our campsites.

We finished the blocks with Danish oil, and re-oiled them this Spring. I expect they'll last a few years and at the end of their life will provide a few minutes of heat for our cabin, perhaps while we make a new set.
