Complete novice...what kind of spare do I need?

Postby DMITRY » Mon Aug 01, 2022 2:06 pm

Just bought this fiberglass body little trailer for hauling our things when we go camping.
I believe it's one of these Mullins units. http://www.superiorglassworks.com/Origi ... ullins.htm
The seller built it from a kit he purchased at a hot rod meet.
Before we take it on the road, I'd like to get a spare wheel/tire. How do I go about finding which one we need, and, once purchased, how would you recommend I mount it, so as not to take up too much room? I am not very handy, but with patient tuition, I can do stuff. Thanks!

Choice of Ford (5 x 4.5"), Old Ford (5 x 5.5") or Chevy (5 x 4.75") bolt pattern.

Hub cap has to come off .
Good hardware store or tire store of you choice can help you out; a lot easier now then on sunday!
Racking up; And Rapin foam

As someone old enough to remember cars with real tires in the trunk I recommend a third to match what is on it. Pay the money to get rim to match then rotate your tires every few trips to extend life a bit. When you need new plan to buy 3 again. This will insure your spare will be healthy when you need it. (Never liked the idea of depending on 10 year old rubber to get me out of a jam)
You hide your conversion and call it stealth. I put mine out in the open and give it a beer.

I was thinking of a donut, to save on space. Can you suggest a mounting hardware for the tongue?
Also, the rain cover, would you cover the tongue as well as the body of the trailer? Would just the cheap tarp do, held together with rubber tie down straps?
