How to with mountain bike.

Postby Brankulo » Sun Jul 16, 2023 10:09 am

I am trying to get some ideas on how people deal with when traveling with bike. I hate to leave bike on the rack. Do you guys just put it inside the trailer when you need to be away? Or has anyone figured any way to store? O keep thinking of compartment that slides out the side and lay the bike flat without front wheel. Or just hang inside from the ceiling, on some sort of track that would slide in and out of the side door. Again with front wheel off.

Front wheel off. Inside the tow vehicle or the teardrop. Out of site is the best method.

In addition, when I am out for a hike, bike ride, or other reason to be away I turn on my radio in the cabin just loud enough that someone walking up to the camper will notice. My theory is that this is a good deterrent to someone snooping around as they may think someone is taking a nap.

Edit
BTW, Friz is the "bike in a small space" Guru. After seeing his post (below) mine is a rookie move!

My mattress stows in the footwell and the bikes travel upside down with the front wheels off. I have velcro straps and pads to keep the bikes secure. Front wheels in bags on top of the mattress.Image

We leave ours. They are high enough up they don't get hammered.

Realize it's an older post, but there was a guy who built his with a front compartment that loaded from the side. He carried a paraglider. Sorry, can't remember the name, but if you search paraglider on the forum you will likely find it.

The thought of storage inside had me cringing at the possibility of a shock leak. Because I have, unfortunately, had seals go out twice and dump all of the oil. I don't want that in my living space, especially with a mattress or clothing near.
Friz's photo, while efficient use of the space and good for keeping the bike safe, is just painful to look at.

I would opt for an exterior rack, separate compartment, or storage in/on the tow vehicle.
