The trailer is in...

Postby mikeschn » Mon Aug 23, 2004 3:53 pm

Hey guys,

It's been an exciting day. I picked up the trailer for the Weekender. I also did a write up eariler today on some cost comparisons, and as soon as I get a chance I'll add that to the Weekender page. In the meantime I though I'd share a couple photos with you...

BTW, The fabricator said business is slow right now so if anyone else needs a trailer welded up, now's the time.

So without further ado... here's the photos...

How exciting to have your trailer coming together!

Looks good! Can't wait to see it attached to the Weekender.

I don't have a calculated tongue weight at the moment... but I can tell you I went out there with a scale and it says 65 pounds. :D

That's a mighty fine looking chassis you have there, Mike. I want your wheels. What size? Who's the manufacturer? They look like they cost more than the trailer.

I just got mine back from the welder a couple of days ago with the modifications. A person could get carried away with this stuff. When my wife asks why I'm so into the tiny trailer thing I'm just gonna say "it's Mike's fault--he made me do it".
The tiny trailer in the avatar is designed to carry our recumbents and sometimes sleep in. We LOVE having a kitchen in the woods and a place for most of our gear.

LOL... I did it eh? Well hey, why not...

As for the wheels, I love the way they look. I had them on my pop up and I wanted them on my Baja Benroy, but couldn't find them. But our man Rik found them and put them on his RoadToad! So I asked Rik and next thing you know...

Anyways, they come from http://www.redneck-trailer.com/2004/E/P ... -6-E-9.pdf

but I ordered them from the same place Rik did and saved about $20 a wheel...

So now, tell me about your trailer modifications... :)

I'm really liking the torsion suspension.. I can see chopping 3" off the total height of a t/d by getting rid of the springs..

Hey Arne,

There's a lot to like about the simple design trailer I just had built and the torsion axle that's under it.

BTW, I just updated my Weekender page and put the chassis stuff online... Here's the URL

Mike,

Great wheels...!!! Now that you have your trailer, I can see myself falling behind fast. But then I do have to work outside. Got the floor put together this weekend (after being rained out both days. Just need to get the asphalt on the bottom and bolt it down to move forward to the sides. But no TD time this weekend, I have to make a tirip out of town.

Do you really think you're going to fall behind fast? The insulated Weekender is not a 1 weekend project. :( However once I have the panels built, I could easily wrap it up in a weekend. But I'm not going to.

Why?

I'm having fun using it as a mockup... trying out different ideas... plus, I can't rush, cause what do I do when I'm done building it?

On a bright note, the Weekender will be a simple bolt down, removable trailer. So if I want to further develop a Raven to sit on the 5x8 frame, I can do it without buying another trailer.

I'm thinking about building a garage for teardrop bodies!!!

Along with the weather factor, I have the unpredictable out of town work to slow my progress on the TD. I do not expect mine to be a quick project, as long as I have it useable by April I will be happy.

"A garage for teardrop bodies" I'm building mine under an EZ Up... :D
