After dealing with all the paperwork, police, and state employees I got my tags. I got it tagged as a "Travel Trailer" so I will be getting a title in the mail. I could have just tagged it as a utility trailer and it would have been done a long time ago. I wanted to see what was involved with doing it the hard way.
The process wasn't that bad, in retrospect. It's just that there are things you don't know about going into the process. Number one is to have it inspected by law enforcement. I guess they want to make shure it isn't stolen. I towed it to the local PD and had a sergeant check it out. When I got to the VTR (Vehicles Titles and Registration) office, she said that he filled it out wrong. Then she came back and said that his signature wasn't valid because he wasn't in the auto theft task force.
She told me that I needed more paperwork and something else needed to get notarized. Before I left, she gave me the number to call for an inspection and said that I'd have to make an appointment. I figured that it would take a week before they got to me. I called the officer, he wasn't there so I left a message I waited but I had to leave for work.
After I left work, there was an accident on the interstate, 4 semis and 3 cars. They are doing some construction so some of the exit ramps are closed. I missed the last one before the accident. My 25 min commute took over 2 hours, I was so tired that I was falling asleep in traffic. As soon as I got home, I went right to bed. That was the end of my Ira day.
When I woke up my wife left me a note saying that the Sherriff came before she went to work. He signed my paper and I was set. I went to the VTR office Friday and they gave me a VIN number. I stamped it on the tongue and went to the Tax collector's office today and got my tags. You have to enclose a picture of the trailer when you get the VIN and Tags. The lady at the tag office was as excited as I was.
