I had a couple of SS Handicap grab bars for a toilet room that I kept from a remodel, I had to shorten one and lengthen the other, but there was more than enough materiel from the shortened one to lengthen the other.
The one I lengthened only needed to be about an 1-1/2 longer, and from the one I shortened I cut about 5" out of it, so I used the whole piece to make fit up easier and chopped the other end accordingly. The following photo's are of the one I lengthened only:
To get the best fit for welding I trued both ends on my lathe.

I then fit it up for tack up using angle iron to hold it straight

Before welding I checked for true and straight, the existing flanges seen here were cut off and replaced with new backing plates I fabbed earlier in the week.

The brackets I fabbed for my roof rack on the outside doubled for attachment on the inside

The finished product, both sides now have grab bars.
