Question for Steve Cox - Hardwood Flooring

Postby Classic Finn » Thu May 25, 2006 4:24 pm

Steve Good Evening...This is what I,ll be installing even though we,ll have a mattress...

Question is that - On the hardwood flooring did you install it after you had the walls up or before?

Is it a Laminate or Genuine Hardwood ?

Also to anyone else that may be interested here is the English Website of Karelia Hardwood Flooring and its different Products...

Karelia is Eastern Finland just for your geographical info..

Hello Heikki,

I used a real oak wood parquet that comes in 12" squares. It was the cheap stuff though. I waited until after I had done everything else inside the teardrop before putting down the floor, that way I didn't drip anything on the parquet. My floors are 1/2" plywood and the parquet is about 3/8" thick. I used construction adhesive to stick it down. Karelia has some beautiful flooring. I think your part of the world is where parquet floors originated.

    Heikki,
I also put the laminate flooring in at the end, like Steve. Only without glue. You can install a full sheet of the thin foam type underlayment & then just 'float' the laminate flooring. Or install a full sheet of 1" to 2" extruded polystyrene insulation & float the floor. No thermal breaks under your bed that way.
