I was thinking something lightweight with a 2x2 frame and maybe skinned with frp or luann...I want the trailer to have dual use...I want to be able to haul stuff in it once in a while but I want the door to seal good...my biggest problem with hatches is I never made one so I am unsure about how to get a good seal and good edge around it..I have the top square so I can haul two kayaks on top..

Can someone tell me what size shim to use between the top, sides, and bottom of hatch frame? 1/8 or 1/4 inch?

I used 1/8 gap to the bottom and 3/8 each side and top.
Id be using a wide T moulding around the edge perhaps

Thanks a lot for the tip...I was going to try and do this with local available materials but it is difficult to find anything. I looked at some of the aluminum and galvanized drip corner flashing and J molding at HD and Lowes but nothing really works perfect. I suppose the T molding is only found online?
