Tag mount ?

Postby rmcelroy » Sun Jul 23, 2006 10:34 am

OK guys, what kind of cool tag mounts have you seen or used. I didn't like the bracket that came with my taillight kit, and google searches only find sport bike billet mounts and Al surround frames for hot rods.

I've tried to build an economical Tear, but feel like I need a better mount than I've found so far.

Thanks
Mc

I went round and round on this myself. I searched locally but found nothing usable (license mount with light). Then picked up just a light locally but didn't like how it mounted. Then picked up the Airstream unit from vintagetrailers and didn't like the way it mounted either.

So, I just bent up my own mount out of the (thick) aluminum I skinned with and added two stainless bolt lights (boltz I believe, don't have the link handy) to mount the actual plate. Still not totally happy but it was cheap (found some for $10 a pair), functional, and has a minimal look.

These ones work well and you can find them in chrome if you look around.

I used this one. (See link below)

The price isn't too bad either ($13.95).

You could make your own. This one is recessed and framed with aluminum. The light was cheap. It was a lot of work fitting it up though.

I kept mine simple. Early VW license plate light and a cheap bracket from Pep Boys which you can't even see.

I used the same style as the one from BugCity but had it brass plated to match the rest of the hardware. Image

Well, I'm not sure what I was looking for. I thought something really snazzy-you know like a billet aluminum mount for a T bucket, or Harley or something. But it turns out those are just tag brackets (you know one leg at a time and all that).

I decided to go with the bugcity bracket.

So ya think if I get a propeller for my hitch I'll get better gas mileage?

Thanks all
Mc
