larger camper ideas

i have a few questions on campers. After discussing it with the wife the teardrop is out of the question or at least will probably shelved. I don't want to put that much work into one and then she would never go. I will need something more roomier and one she can walk into. I probably will need one a minimum of 10 feet long, have about at least 6ft 4 inch ceiling and toilet to make her happy. I can get one of the shower tubs from ebay for less than 100 bucks. I am trying to locate one of the old "ham" types or scotty made types but have not seen any here in middle TN. . There was one here I really liked it was being pulled by a late 40s/early 50s model chevy truck I think was yellow. Does anyone have plans to that one or a link to pictures? I would really like one to build from scratch or one to rebuild completely. The reason is I have access to a lot of free wood and would prefer to payt as I need stuff. I really do not want to take a loan for one.

There are also a couple in the "Vintage Plans" above that may fit your needs. I kind of like the "Lil Guy" that listed there, and may someday give a shot at building one. But that will be several years away, if I do.

This was my shot at the smallest trailer to carry a working shower:



Finding the space for a shower isn't that hard, but then you have to have a large water tank, a hot water system and a grey water tank. None of this lot is either small or light, so you have to build a fairly big trailer.

Len is building something very much like this right now - in his Yahoo album, scroll down to 'Shasta 1' to 'Shasta 6'.

They look like a quarter-circle and generally have the drain in the center.

There is no plan, (except in my head), yet, but I am working on some cad drawings for my sidewall layouts. Of course the windows sizes are for my specific recycled windows, etc.

Have you looked closely at Rob's cabin car? I think you can stand up in that, and the thing is drop-dead gorgeous. Has a shower, too.

We have corner shower trays for use in houses but not special trailer ones, if that's the question. Our trailers are always a lot smaller than US ones - a 'monster' trailer here is only 23ft long, 7ft 6in wide and no slide-outs - so our fittings for trailers tend to be smaller too.

The latest wild idea seen in 'caravans' (=travel trailers) that's been copied from boats is circular shower compartments with semi-circular doors that rotate around inside them. Looks cool, but I think square works better!

Body dimensions are: 128" L x 76" W x 84" H (excl vent). Length overall is 166". Beds are 78" long and 22" wide in their 'dinette' position - either they each pull out to about 30" wide or they are joined by the table to make a 72" wide bed.

we have them for houses too. recently at a KOA I saw a wheelchair-access one that was about 3x3 along the walls and 5' across the slant (straight-sided triangle, not the quarter-circle one). I thought that was kinda nifty; made me wonder how the teardrops4vets layout might put the idea to use, albeit smaller.

As far as seperate bedrooms don't give her any ideas. I saw the cabin car I thought was robs. I liked that but the wife woulld want more room. I doubt I could talk her into it. Thats the size I would like but its to much of a trouble to build something like that and not be able to get the family to use it.
