removing wood glue on surface (help!)

Postby italianub » Sun May 12, 2024 7:22 pm

Hey guys,

I accidentally allowed some wood glue to dry on my outer wall that is in progress, in two spots :( . Any ideas on how to remove? Tried sanding without much luck. This wood is unfinished by the way, so I think acetone would be good? It did dry overnight

Boiling water. Acetone probably won't touch it.

Use a towel folded on top of the lump to hold the hot water.
Scraper after softened?

Or, building on Tony and Pete's idea... Take a damp folded towel. Lay it on the glue. Run an iron over it until you can start to peel the glue away with a scraper. It shouldn't take much more than that to get the majority of it off the surface.

You might find this raises the lamination a bit. As a precaution after you've removed the glue, lay a heavy screen (hardware cloth) and weight it down with small items to allow air to circulate to dry the surface.

I would use a hand scraper to scrape it down to the veneer. Then try lacquer thinner to soften what's left using the scraper again. Hand scrapers if sharpened correctly do wonders. Amazon has one that's a 6 piece set with the burnishing tool included for $15.99.
The listing has pictures on how to use one. Some call them card scrapers.

What danny said. Scrape, lacquer thinner, then sand
