Counter suggestions needed

Here is the example Im doing ... right now..1st pic is without wax and the other 2 are after.






Thats my version and its got 2 wax coats on it as of now...Im going to do 1 more coat after its all done.

Well I am getting back to the point I need to put a counter in. Problem is I haven't decided what to put in. I was going to make a butcher block but it will take too much time.

So what does everyone think of Parkey on 1/2" plywood. Should I finish it with pour Epoxy or something else?

Would tile be better?

Greetings from the Land of Parquet ... Finland - I think it would look real nice if it is the "Real and Solid" Parquet and not the ones with just a thin veneer or imitation parquet..the later I wouldnt even play with..

Im installing the Original Parquet on the tear flooring after all the other stuff is done...Karelia has a 10 year warranty ...if used properly.but on Counterops?????? But could be a nice idea for certain..

Thank you all so much. I went shopping for tile and here is what I came up with.

I have 75" by 20" of counter so

Parquet- unfinished Nada

Red oak planks = $78

formica $43 sheet cut myself. (router nadda)

1/2 Birch plywood $25

18" sq. Travertine tile 4 @ 17.67

Steve the tile you have is 2.59sq ft. =about $ 40 plus the ply

Tomorrow I well check the cabinett shops and see if they have something I can salvage. I can't even find a solid smooth panel door.

Mary Floor Urathane is harder I put it on the walls and tried to sand it. Not easy. I think I may check into the Enduro poly.

Finn you are the reason I am in this mess. If I could find a straight board I would build one of those.

For anyone else looking they make a panel of pine but the panels I looked at had large knot hole and several on the edges.

OH YEAH! I found this obscure tile manufacturer that will put a teardrop picture on tiles for me. $50 a sq ft. Better get it built first.

You had me worried there for a while.. How about a cedar strip counter top..? I was thinking of making one like that at one point when I ran into this one I have... I think that would look perdy... I can always ship you the same countertop... I have..
they still have them... The price was like 69 or 75 or so USD..that was for an 8 foot section of it and plenty wide...at 3 feet or more.

Now if only I had the Professional Woodworking Skills such as many of our friends here I could put these nice products to use... But ok I,ll have to go with the skills I have and learn.... And boy am I learning..

I simply bought a 6' counter top from the big box store and cut the backsplash off then cut it to length. But maybe you don't want laminate. Butcher block would be nice, I remember seeing a post where someone had bought a butcher block top. One advantage of the pre made top is that it is fairly light weight.

I built a butcher block top for mine, doesn't look to good in the pictures, no finish on it yet. I used oak and walnut. I am lucky, I have a planer, but you can plane it by hand (need a scrub plane). I ran it through and planed it down to 1/2" so it is not to heavy. Jim G
