Painting over aluminum

Postby Aaron Coffee » Sat Feb 03, 2007 8:07 pm

Tossing the idea of building #2. Thinking of a scadabout profile. Would be painted to match my car. Am thinking of skinning it in aluminum then using automotive paint over the aluminum. Just wondering if that makes sense, or is the aluminum just a wasted step? Does the aluminum require primer like steel?
Thanks
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

Yes painting is not a problem, I am restoring a Scad-A-Bout and in order to paint it I first primed it with ZINC CHROMATE PRIMER. Once primed the paint has something to cling to. For what it is worth it has worked for me.
