Hi Eupoean builder of TD's in 2007

I built my TD last year and found it easy to get top grade sheet ply material.

I now require an other 3 sheets of Birch ply to make the kitchen.

Well its been an up hill struggle. One of the largest suppliers of sheet material told me."there is no veneer faced ply coming into the country and all socks are low, We do not have any."

I ordered birch ply and was delivered birch faced MDF, I sent it back.

I did find 3 sheets in stock but it was Latvian and not from Finnland. It was also short grained, that is the grain runs across the sheet. I worked on it this weekend and its all "pithy" it sands too easy and is not hard, good enough for the kitchen but I am glad I don't have to make the whole think out of it. Last week it cost £17+vat / sheet I paid £23+vat lord knows what it will be next week.

Hi Heikki

It was Finnish birch that I used on the cabin. But sure enough there is non to be had here now. It must be a short term thing, I hope.

I talked to a man in the business and he said no there's lots, I will phone you back with a price. Ring/ring I have check and you were right, there is non. A conversation like this went on four time until I found some stock.

I have enough to finish my kitchen so I am alright. I posted to give a heads up to any UK builders starting out this year, I have heard of at least two.
