Sorry you are having trouble with your roofing. I think I will stay away from box stores for my wood too.

Good luck with the rest

Left to their "weathering" , cracks will get worse with water intrusion ...resulting ROT... so for now , got some cheap tarps to cover the bad spots , will keep it dry until this brutal heat goes away ... Hurricane evacuation requirements are met , we're ready !!! I'll be looking for roofing alternatives ...seal tab ???? Na!!! Too heavy eh ??? How about beer cans , unrolled and applied like scales ... colors too ????...T.D.Budman ... Colarolla ...Dr.T.D.Pepper ... Rolling rock, and roll ... Oly' rollers

...a lot of folks have been doing paint over wood for their roofs (rooves?) anyway, if done this way, cracking and water intrusion will always be a problem because of the nature of wood...it is grained and it expands and contracts and it will always have splits init no matter what you do paint wise...these problems are compounded with ply, cheap or not...the only way to doit once and fahgedabohdit is a solid membrane...aluminum, rubber, fiberglass, vinyl tonneau material ect... otherwise a cloes eye and repaint is all you can do...

Keep the panels flat?
This was my thoughts with the WeekEnder and Uniflex 255 paint.

MJ , I take your words as gospel .... sure makes sense ... got lots of epoxy left over, gonna ' do as you suggest and just glass the whole top/hatch , like a boat .... then some paint ... That's Cool !!!

Bandit ... that sure would HELP , but I'm afraid MJ's correct with the expansion/ contraction thingie '....Schmaybe' the best thing on the roof is metal .... as has been done for the last 60+ years ... gotta' be the most durable with the least mantainence....

Allthough we've been EXTREMELY LUCKY (Yes , I'm knocking ) about not having a big storm through here so far, The wife and I are comforted knowing we have a way out , and so comfortable too ... Now she wants me to get a small 12v cooler for the TD ... Coleman had a mini fridge ??? some other brand just held a few drinks .... anybody tried out any of these little 12 v coolers and can recommend one ... ?????? Any advice would be appreciated!!!!!!! :)

Glen, over my 20+ yrs of trucking I have had at least 8 different 12v thermoelectric coolers and have come to the conclusion that they all basically suck....Yeah I know that is kinda dramatic but here is the skinny on them...under ideal conditions they will cool only 40* bellow ambient temps...so onna 90* day your bologna will still turn green...they draw a constant 3+amps and will kill a battery overnite....there are good ones out there but they are a bit on the pricey side and I think one of the most ideal coolers out there is this one from Camping World made by Dometic...it is an absorbtion unit and will run off of 120VAC/12VDC/propane...plug into house power at home and get it good and cold, transfer it to the car while traveling and plug into 12v, when you get to the CG, either plug into shore power or use propane...at 35 liters it may seem a bit small but remember you don't haveta add any ice...

MJ ... it is a beauty , but at those prices (mr. thrifty ) I 'think I'll use ice , or open a can ....Dr. Pepper ain't so bad hot ????
Not being a professional camper , just an evacuee...I'm gonna' have to go "primitive" ... already have a retro metal cooler from the 60's.. in perfect shape ..I'll just tell "her worship" it didn't work out .... 3 amps ... whoa !!!! :o

There's a housing shortage here , make it too NICE and somebody'll want to move in ...

Shakedown cruise....

Postby GPW » Thu Aug 17, 2006 8:03 am

Took the TD out for a little 60 mile spin ... stopped often to check the hubs , which never seemed to get over body temps ... got it up to 55mph , no troubles ...Seemed to tow really nice on the interstate ... much better than on my bumpy rutted gravel road... Little noisy (trailer clunking on bumps ) but didn't seem near as bad as the very noisy utility trailers which dot the roads here...
Got the License plate on ... This project is now declared done (for now anyway ) and Roadworthy ..... YIPPEEE!!!!!!!

A Big thanks to all youse' guys for the advice and inspiration ... :)

Now , where's the plans for the" Airliner..." Never enough TD's ..... OK !!! I'm "hooked" like a fish ....hahahahahahahahaha

schmaybe' I should start a new thread on the Airliner...this has gone on far too long ...hahahahahahahahaha

After almost a year in the sun , the big TD still needs some paint on the roof ...Built a shed to protect/house the TD ... and now I'll have a protected place to put a really good paint job/covering on that roof .... no leaks yet , but did get a few dead lizards  Structure is still solid ...Everything collected for extended stays ... solar panels/batteries...everything ...except one of those shower tents ... gotta' get one of those :D Ready to Rock and ROLL !!!!
