what size tires and rims do you guys use on your 10'X5' tears? also what is the average tongue length past the front of your tear?

Aaron, tires and rims are your decision...we use 205-70-R15 on 5x15 trailer rims...but there are a kazillion choices(more or less)...we build our trailer tongue 5' long...this allows for a 1'+tounge box and plenty of clearance between car and camper...your tongue should be a minimum of half your tow vehicles width plus a little...this will keep you from jackknifing the tow vehicle into the camper(or vice versa)....

tires and rims? typically what ever comes with the trailer you buy. If you're building a custom trailer, what ever looks good.

My next trailer will be a 5x10, like the size in your question, and I plan on using 14" rims and standard trailer tire size. (If memory serves me correctly, that is a 205-75/14.

Thanks guys! I did some calculating on my trailer and the camper body and if I use the trailer I have as it is The axle will line up where I wanted it and I will have 39" between the body of the tear and the rear of my pickup. I think this will be okay, as for rims,I was just curious as to what size was common on my sized camper,I guess there isnt a common size so I think I will go with 15" rims, I want to get them ordered in case they take awhile to get here. I am going to match the rims on my truck,I have chrome rally wheels with a old corvette rally hubcaps.

since I am going to have to lengthen my axle about 6" I was thinking of buying the rims first so I dont have to be specific about the setback on the rims and then lengthening the axle to fit the rims,good idea or bad? also how much space would you guys suggest I leave between the inside of the tires and the body ? 2-3 inches? Thanks ! Aaron

...buying wheels and tires first is a real good thing to do...between 1 and 2 inches will be sufficient clearance...if you get over 2"s, everything starts to look out of perspective and you might start to have issues with fender coverage of the tires...

I have 215/75/15 on 15x7 aluminum auto rims w/ a -6mm offset...As MadJack pointed out...watch the distance of the tire from the trailer... I had to order 10-3/4 fenders and they don't "surround" the tire like I'd like, but good enough... you can order 13" fenders, BUT, they're 36" long... the only reason I went with these rims/tires is because I got a great price on them and I thought they looked nice... I wanted my TD up a little higher than most too - my trailer should be 16" off the ground loaded..... why? you ask.. I live in Kansas... 30+mph winds and rain on holiday weekends is a GIVEN... so, we throw coolers, chairs, etc. under the trailer to protect and keep dry and it kinda keeps the same line as the tow vehicles.
