Floor thickness

I have been trying to get a hold of some 1/2 5'x8' plywood for my floor but all the suppliers in my city only have 3/4 plywood stocked. Is there a big diffrence between 1/2 and 3/4 plywood for floors?

Boy, if you can get it at 5'x 8' consider yourself gifted. There is some weight difference but you can make that up some where else.

You don't necessarily need a solid piece...you can get 4x8"s and rout a groove, insert a spline and butt the pieces togther...I do it on the sides and floors on mine...and they are plenty strong...I do use epoxy however. Lots cheaper than the over size material, and you don't have to wait for it on a special order...and you can use the drop from the 2nd piece for other parts in the galley...you're gonna need them anyway...Doug

The 3/4" will be about 30lbs heavier. No big deal if that's all you can find.

Thanks Asian, thats what I was looking for . Now, All I can get is A/C plywood , Is there a best way to lay this, as in the "A" side -Inside for the floor or Outside twords the ground or vice versa?

You want good side up....

Just seal side exposed to weather (bottom) as best you can..

5'x10' x1/2" or 3/4" only is a very standard size in commercial cabinet and counter building...we use it all the time; HOWEVER, you need to go to a "lumber yard" not a home store...and drag your wallet along, as it's going to be close to $80-$100 a sheet pending on finish....another option for you...pingpong board is 5x9, but again, you have to go to a lumber yard.... My floor is made out of 2 pieces of 4x8 1/2" BC (TD is 5' wide, so I had 3' of scrap) w/ adequate framing... far cheaper.

Try that in Joplin. Even the cabinet shops don't have it. If I had a place to store it I suppose I could run somewhere else to get it.

Miriam... just a thought... I know it comes out of KC, that's not to far from you, I'll see if I can find the wholesaler... If you want, I can order you some, you can pick it up on your way home from Minden...but again...IT AINT CHEAP.

Miriam...It's called Schutte Lumber in Kansas City, Mo near 635 and I35... 3/4 AC 5x9 is $90, 3/4 AC 4x10 is $70 but they're out of the 4x10 for about 10 days.

I can get the 3/4" for $75 they say its A\C "superply" , they say its better for outdoor use but I have not heard of this superply before.any ideas?

I've never heard of "Super Ply"...they might mean it's cabinet grade one side and 9 ply vs. 7 ply.. the more plys, typically the flatter it is. If you don't really need 1 solid piece, again, you can piece it togther w/ framing, etc.

Last summer I called Schutte Lumber and had the lumber yards call. HD said they could get 3/4"x5'x10' but when I went to order it they couldn't find it. I gave up and framed.

Thanks for the offer to pick up but I really don't need it now. Not yet
