TowBox Question

Postby Classic Finn » Wed Mar 28, 2007 1:00 pm

Im getting ready to cut the profile for the Towbox...Im a lil stuck.. :designing: :scratchthinking:

The box sides will be 21 inches in height.. 13 inches deep..1inch flat area
in the back from both walls before the radius starts.

Now I need a lil help in the Radius to look right. Or is it just a matter of preferance in reality? or should it be the same radius as on the front upper of our tear?

Can someone tell me what the correct radius should be in order for it to
look right..

The top I would like to open straight up... :worship:

Heikki, Are you looking for a box or something like JPLOCK or Cary(Camp Inn) have on their tears or are you doing a half- moon shape?

Hard to figure out what radius when you only give a couple of measurments.

Are you trying to round the corners?

Heikki:

What exactly are you asking?

Radius? = how far out it should stick or the width?

Maybe Andrew knows some measurement detail?

What I meant in my fumbly Finndian Engleis   was the correct radius on the top of the box but I think.. from the photo above it looks to be fairly to my Finnish liking...

The width I will make about 45 inches... I,ll cut the template first and I,ll
post another photo.. I havent measured the tongue yet so I reckon I need to get that info for anyone to assist also...

I have my lil Buddy ( 2 year old) bothering my concentration at the moment but I,ll get back shortly to this...

Thanks Steve..

Heikki:

How about a cardboard cut angle design to see if you like the shape of the angle? Say the two sides with a cross piece to give you a view of what you could build?

Must be a bad case of crs or worse  ...I checked thru my old email and I did get nice info from our friend Andrew on the Towbox...Garsh...

Here is what he states:

The attached diagram shows a tongue box 300 deep (solid line) or 350 deep (dashed line) by 1150 wide. The red line is a 306 (1690 wide) which can turn over 70 degrees before it hits the tongue box - this is a long, long way and maybe twice as far as most cars+caravans can turn, so I think that's good enough.

I think you must make the box about 500 high so that the top of the tongue box hits the front of the body where it is exactly vertical - I think that will be much easier to build. The Camp-Inn has a big flat front, so they can made it as high as they want.
