Froad Toad

After looking at some designs and my Jeep Cherokee I decided that a square shape would suit what I want and to keep costs down I designed this around the size sheets I could get easily. It's 2.7m long, 1.2m high and 1.5m wide (internally) (Thats about 8.8' by the usual 4' high and 5' wide) and runs 31" tyres.

I have Rik Keller to thank for the inspiration hence the name Froad Toad (Offroad Toad). I still have a bit to do (like interior cabinets etc) but the basics are there and I can start building soon





And with the Cherokee, mine is about 7" higher off the ground than this one so I'm hoping roof heights will be about the same with the TD possibly a little lower than the Jeep.

This off road TD may help you with some design feature... Mine is going to be pretty close to this design once I can locate a shop to build it in....

I do like the rollbars on those. I'll probably incorporate Jerry can holders behind the rear wheels and a few other remote touring type modifications and grab some ideas from them.

Probably not They were the nly 31" tyres I could find already done on Sketchup and since this was my first go I ttok the easy way out

With the utter simplicity of the body, why not just square off the rear end and use conventional doors , instead of a hatch ... you could even let the sides extend past the squared off part (as shown) just for aesthetics...Room above the rear doors for a small awning , and you don't need to spend a fortune on hatch hinges... Just crumbs for thought...
