Joanne, if you like to cook and bake like we do , you'll like the ease and convenience of Solar cooking ... It hasn't gotten really HOT here(yet) , and I can put stuff out by 10:00 AM and by dinner , unload the cooker , and its very warm and ready to serve ... No stirring , no worry of burning , and the taste is delicious , and even tastes better when you realize that it cost nothing , didn't heat up the house, and you really didn't even have to think about it and had lots of time to do other things ...like shop ... Just too easy for us busy chefs ...
last project ...meatloaf .... came out great !!!! I may have to try some cookies next ... :)
best of all , you can do this on the road ... let that stuff cook , you can go fishing ...

The TD solar cooker has worked out so well , we're building one out of wood and metal , a more permanent and BIGGER one ... The test model would only hold one 12" pot and handle .... now I'll be able to do a whole meal ,and not just the entree... and enough to share with fellow campers ... best of all , no fires to stink up the campgrounds and smoke up your interior...no fuel , no standing over a hot campfire (unless it's COLD !).. better yet , no work, stirring ,fear of burning .... and it's terribly GREEN and you'll impress the heck outta' everyone else with your ecological sensibilities...

Ps , when hauling , it's just a box that can hold all kinds of gear ...double duty , perfect for TD's...

Cooking food in a box, good concept, here in AZ. if you want to solar cook you just lay it out on the concret patio. Don't take to long. ofcourse you have to chase the ki-oats out of the bacon. Jim G :R :R

While it may sound funny , I propose this as a viable way of food preparation away from home or not... It's free, it doesn't heat your house Up , certainly not dangerous, and while everyone else is scrambling for fuel , you'll be enjoying a warm meal ( Once you've been through a situation like Katrina , you'll know what I mean )... if everyone did a little bit for the planet , we wouldn't be in all this ****!!! Check out your pudgy children , whose only creativity is how to shove fast food down their face whilst playing video games ... some legacy eh ???

When I was in the Army we used solar heating often.

Take your envelope of food and toss it on top of the tent roof........a few hours later it was warm.

It was effective for heating up pre cooked food but baking bread, cooking chicken, and meatloaf.....??

I may have to do some testing.
