Need your opinions on a bed idea

Hi again folks,

I haven't even started construction on mine yet but am getting all my ideas together.

I have a bad back and I was pretty concerned about the bed that I was going to sleep on in my teardrop. I am also ummmm, errrr horizontally gifted, there that makes "fat" sound so nice.

So I knew a 3 inch pad would flatten like a cheap pancake as soon as my chubby butt laid down.

Well at home I have a select comfort king sized bed a LOVE it, have had it for 8 years. I said to myself wouldn't it be nice to have THAT in my trailer.

Well after looking for a replacement pillowtop for my bed on eBay I noticed people selling the air chambers from the bed. The only thing you have to have to support the air chamber is a wooden frame and you could use a foam pad to top it off. It would be a little higher than most but can you imagine the comfort? The air pump could plug right in and you would be in business.

So am I missing something? It this possible or do I officially have a great idea?????

Seriously my husband has a back issue and could use a good bed idea. Right now we have an extra firm 4" foam from JC Penney's and it is too hard for me. Only sinks in if my knee or elbow is pushing down.

See that's the best part, you can buy the queen double chamber that takes up a bit more space than a conventional queen and adjust the two air chambers to your own liking. Since they are air chambers they can also be squished a little if you don't have enough room.

The problem with that is you'd probably end up with a really thick mattress. That may not be a problem if you adjust your build for it. The foam mattresses aren't that bad, there are different hardnesses as well as grades of foams available. Most folks prefer the medium foam.

We aren't lightweights and our mattress is nice anf comfy. Even when you have to crawl on your hands and knees to put the sheets on the foot of the bed, you don't really bottom out. I'm using a Wal-Mart foam mattress, it's 6in thick with 1.5in thick memory foam on top.

But seriously folks...

I'm a shrimp, so this ain't an issue for me, but I've heard from TONS of good eaters here that have nothing but good things to say about their foam set-ups.

I'm not as big as you (I'm 6', 230), but I do have a bad back, and have a foam mattress in my tear, and I love it. Sometimes I think it's better than the bed at home. I have 4" of medium foam and an 1 1/2" of memory foam. It's not luxuriously soft, but it's very comfortable, I sleep good on it, and I don't wake up with my back hurting....well, no more than normal, and if you have a bad back, you know what I mean.

Deacon, a 4" med foam with a 2" topper is just about as good a bed as you can get...I am 6'2/265 and that is what we are using and it is at least as comfortable as the big bed at home...

Your best bet is to check them out for yourself. If there is talk of a gathering near you, it would do yourself a lot of good to actually see, feel, lay in one in person.

Heck your just a little fella at my peak I was 437. Still slept pretty comfortable on a 4" foam mattress. I am now petite 300 lbs the mattress is still holding up. It all depends on the type and firmness of the foam being used. I would think the combo madjack mentioned would be super cozy ( 4 inch foam 2 inch topper)

dude..your skinny compared to me, and I got the same mattress as Rocky, a wal-mart 6 inch foam mattress, 4 inches of medium foam and 2 inches of memory foam..i sleep like a baby in the Tear.
oh, i'm 6'1" and 375...i know..what a heifer...

I'm chiming in here with Asianflava and Jim.

If they're comfy on the Walmart 6" mattress I just hate to tell you how sinful my Walmart 8" mattress is..............way comfortable! 5" high density and 3" memory foam.



There's no sense making my bed when I find myself always napping in it, and I'm talking about it being in my own driveway!

I'm currently using a nicer-grade futon mattress. It's not just foam, it has some thick fiber padding around a metal spring center and the whole thing is inside a cloth cover like a big pillow case. I'm 5'11" and 220+ lbs and I don't hit bottom. I have a back problem that made me a bit worried about sleeping on any thin style mattress that was just laid on a hard, flat plywood floor, but this futton mattress has been very comfortable. And the best part is...it was FREE!! Some friends were remodelling their rec room and just wanted to get rid of the old futon!
