Nice design Les. I like your CAD drawings too.

Everybody's tastes are different - I much prefer the skirted version with a real wheel well to the ones where the tongue and footwell are visible from the side. I liked the radiused lower front too, and if the tongue box is all above the A frame, the radius would still be compatible with it . . . . probably a little more 'aerodynamically friendly' for a low HP tow vehicle too

It's awfully hard to have a short, proportionally too tall trailer which doesn't look like a box going down the road (with all the aerodynamic penalties that gives you) - Your skirted version went a long way toward making it look more like a trailer and less like a box

Nice CAD drawings.... I think you've got it sufficiently developed to start building... (I guess I'd better start working on mine, eh?)

Pictures please!!! ;)

Well! :duh:

Apparently I misunderstood Shelley's comments this morning regarding her choice of profile. :o This evening after printing out several of the drawings I've done I asked her just to pick her favorite shape without regard to any other issues.

This is it...

So that's what's getting built!

I've got the tools, I've got the space, I've got the money...now I just have to get some materials (not an easy thing around here) and get going. I'm going to see if I can't free up the utility trailer at work in order to go pick up materials (a Yukon is lousy for that :( ).

I'll take lots of :pictures: :D

Thanks for all the input and kind words everybody! It's been a great help.

Let me see if I understand this. . . You've got the tools, you've got the space and you're got the money. And you've also got a wife that likes what you are planning to do.

Man, you might as well sell your clothes and go to heaven. It'll never be any better than that here on earth.

I've got to bring the quartet out for this one:

Jeff,

I've got a few lined up in my head as well!

It all depends on the tow vehicle and use...lessee,

There's The Dog House which I'm fixin' to build.

There's the Cabin Car just because it's so darn cool.

There's the full-on woodie classic that's small and light and just enough for solo getaways.

There's Steve T's Fish Inn because I love the low wide stance and the super profile.

And more....

You're absolutely right on the Widget! I just went and checked Andrew's site and I'm amazed how close they are (though I checked his geometry and most of the numbers are different so at least it's not a copy completely  ). I worked from scratch on my Dog House plan but all those influences are still in there and the Widget is one I really liked even though I didn't consciencely use it. I had the same parameters I was working toward and there are only so many ways to get what's desired in one package.

However, I'm now concerned about the weight. I looked at Andrew's detailed weight analysis of the Widget (Thanks Andrew! ) and he's come up with 1450 pounds unleaden. That's too much for where I need to be and he's specifying the same 1/4", 1-by, and 1/8" wall sandwich I was going to use. I know Puffin came in closer to 1000 pounds and that what I was shooting for. My Dog House is longer than Puffin by 2 feet (a lot of that is the round tail) but it's also a bit over a foot narrower so I thought I could get close; now I'm not so sure. :( I guess I better do some math; I for sure don't want to build the thing then not be able to tow it. It may pass through a shrink ray and I'll forgo full standing headroom and keep what elements I can.

Back to the drawing board (as they say)... :designing:
