Yes, I do know what 12" St. Augustine and Bermuda look like. How about taller? I drove into my property in George West where my shop is this past weekend, and the grass was level with the window on my truck, and it is a 4X4, and I won't get around to getting on the tractor for another 2 weeks! When dog Jake walks out of the barn and into the grass, it's like the guys in "Field of Dreams" disappearing into the cornfield.

Imagine if you had to cut that grass with a push mower... That's why I keep avoiding it and not complaining about the rain... excuses excuses....

Try what I do--Since Mondays suckith (you don't mind if I totally rob your word, do you?), when I get home I start the laundry and go out and mow. That way, my weekends are clear of yard and laundry (well, the yard is mostly clear of laundry ) and only one day of the week really suc . . ., well, you know the word.

Push mower? As the kind with no motor? yuck...

Mary K are you using a wood conditioner before you stain? That might make the wood stain more evenly...

Got some 20's kids and a riding mower and you would think we wouldn't have to mow. They should be begging to ride it. Course Mike loves it. He even mowed the snow when he got it..

That, my good friend, is a very good idea. I already started doing the laundry on Mondays anyway.

Steel any verbage that I "utter" Mooo...er ... Suckith is a good word... I get funny looks when I say it..oh and instead of saying yes I say "Yar" thats get a chuckle too..

Ever notice how different portions of the same piece of lumber differ in color & texture? Leading to varying results when stained or polyurethaned or whatevered.

A push mower WITHOUT a engine is refered to as a beer powered mower around here. With gasoline prices as they are I may be going back to it since I still have one.

I have used filler and matched by:

-Brushing on a thinned version of what ever you plan on top-coating with (i.e.: polyurethane, lacquer, etc.) over the filler. This stops the filler from getting too dark.

-Stain.

-Then see if your filled area is close, if it needs to be darker simply brush another coat of stain over the filler, this actually may need several coats to get you to the right color.

-Top Coat.

The secret is you always start with a lighter filler as it will almost always turn darker than the wood surrounding it...
