Folks, I went camping with some of the "Carolina" group this weekend at Wateree State Park in South Carolina. One of the trailers that was there was a low budget trailer that Alan Gedes put together. Now it is not high tech or loaded with accessories, however Alan did a lot of horse trading, scrounging, and bit of yankee ingenuity and came up with a respectible looking tear for under 300 bucks, Now like I said it does not have a lot of bells and whistles but it looks great, was dry, and was very inexpensive,
So for those with limited finds or those that just do not want to invest a lot in a tiny camper but want to enjoy a teardrop,, get in touch with Alan, He is glad to share how he put this one together.

Pictures....I want pictures! We've seen Allens Army styled teardrop and it is impressive, but I'd shure like to see pictures of the "affordable teardrop" and especially details on the construction methods as well as materials used.

Go to the "Freebie Challenge" postings on this Tear. If requested I will give a breakdown as to how I built it. The main cost savings was in using recycled wood and scrounged materials. and keping it simple. The only new items purchased were springs, 2 sheets of 1/2 for the sides, garage door handle, 1/2 inch aluminum angle, hinges, hitch, lights and chain, glue, screws and paint.

Talk about cheap!

I bought a pair of these windows on ebay for $6.99 each. With shipping it came to $32 total for two windows.

Mine did not have the rubber trim around the edge, so I'll have to figure something out for attaching/sealing.

The seller had a few left over if anyone is interested.

Hey Carl , what size are they? Do they have two piece trim for inside & outside? How do they mount, inside the door or flush on the outside? ( if that makes any sense???) I am lookin for some windows( not 98 or xp either) :lol:

There's no interior flange. The rubber trim is missing as well. Mine has some holes drilled in the metal frame all the way around. I'll have to use some screws to fasten it to the wood. They should be flush (close to it) with the outside of the door. I figured it was no big loss if they don't work out.

The windows are about 15" high x 21" wide. The glass is tinted. The slider part is a bit sticky, but some cleaning up should help that. These look like windows from a minivan, perhaps a Ford.
