lil bear hinge

Postby tearbum67 » Fri Dec 21, 2007 2:56 pm

I have just ordered my gally hinge from LiL-Bear. Can any one tell me their experience with this hinge? Also I see alot of post about leaving a inch or so hang over of hinge on both sides to help keep out the rain. Any info?

Lil Bear (Grant) is very popular. And a lot of the folks here use his hinges. I personally dont have one of them but Grant is a great guy to buy parts from. And he knows this field very well.

So you,ve made a good decision.  Also he,s a very nice gentleman to deal with and also he gives great advice on questions you may have in building your tear.

He does mention this: "Better-Than-Hurricane" Leakproof Galley Lid Hinge
Someone will chime in yet on this as how they like it. ;) :)

Lets see what else can I say. But Merry Christmas from the Land Of Reindeer. ;)

Just finished installing my "hurricane hinge" from Grant. When on very well. I did let it over hang the roof edge a little bit, but my trim will come out that far, so the over hang won't matter. Very nice quality item.

I will snap a few photos tomorrow with the digital. I tried today with cell phone camera but they are real dark. I need to update build pics anyway!

Whew, an inch overhang is a lot. I think it's supposed to be an inch longer which means half an inch overhang. Mine is actually a bit shirter than that because I neglected a few things in the measurement. The hinge slides apart so you will have to find a way to pervent your hatch from sliding off. You will also need to find the pics to see how it goes together (it's kinda confusing) and how it is mounted (some have accidentally mounted them backwards).

3/8 or 1/2" on a side sounds good to me. Look at the photo of mine here

I used Grant's hinge, easy to install and so far no leaks. Grant is a great guy to deal with. I just told him the width of my TD and he sent it with the proper overhang. About 1/2 inch on each side.

half an inch and it's what the doctor ordered..
now, don't be like me and forget to put some sealant under the hinge when you screw it down or it will leak regardless.
