Bike Rack on top of tear?

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Since we are this subject of roof racks, will this ensemble work with the LB10FF profile? The LB10FF profile should be just like Halfdome Danny's TD, on the previous post. I was afraid that the profile may not be flat enough on the top for the rack, and almost ordered the stretched Benroy pattern.

I was hoping to mount either a cargo rack, or future kayak on the top.

Cliff!

The rack pictured (from my site, above) is on an LB10RF, so the answer to your question is ... yes! I've got a set of these same racks on my personal trailer (a morphed 8' KIT-style, seen in my avatar at the left), and the top on that is even more curved than on the LB10. This rack will eventually hold a 33"x66" cargo basket and a single-rail bike rack - my challenge is to keep as much weight over the trailer's wheels as possible ... I'm pulling with a 2000 Saturn wagon that can pull over 1500#, but the hitch is only rated for 100# tongue-weight (and I don't want to push my luck, there).

Uhmmmm ... I'll probably be getting to that profile for you next week ... I've been waiting a couple of months for my painter to do a custom interior job on a client's trailer, and now that she's here, I've got crap all over the shop floor and everywhere else. She says she'll be done by Monday evening ... ... and though she's pretty good at her word, I still try to factor in the possibility of something going wrong ... :o ...

'Til later, then ...

CHEERS!

Here is another idea, hang your bikes on the tongue. I like to make my tongues a little longer and use a clamp on style bike rack.

This is a Advantage V-Rack by Heininger. It's designed to clamp on a 2"x2" hitch. This one has been modified to fit a 3"x2" tongue. I've started discussions with Heiniger to see if they'll offer a 3"x2" version.

This is so cool! We teardroppers are even having discussions with manufacturers to make custom products for our campers!
Way cool! We are a force to be reckoned with!

Well I don't exactly build Teardrops :o With most manufactures if you can show them there's a market, you can get their attention.

Here is a better picture of my bikes on the tongue an Explorer Box

I have a bike rack for my car that goes in the 1.25" hitch receiver. Last year I picked up an extra receiver at a thriftsale and was going to mount it on the rear of the TD so I could haul the bikes on the back...like Halfdome Danny.
But this winter I decided to try and mount it on the front so that the rack & bikes wouldn't interfere with the hatch opening. I'm not planning on making tongue box so at the most I might have to relocate the battery box.

Thanks everyone for the advice, with all your help we found the perfect solution, which is also the easiest: put the bikes on top of the car.

This way we also have an easy way to transport the bikes when we dont have the teardrop with us (as if that will ever happen).

I managed to pick one of these up on ebay for an awesome price:
