VegasTeardrop's New Construction Of Trailers Has Begun

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Postby Ken Fincher » Mon Mar 17, 2008 1:00 am

Well picked up some 2 X 6 lumber for the trailer bed.
Image

Cut all of the wood to the correct size & then laid them on the trailer & I
also used a bunch of 1/4" spacers between each 2 X 6.
Now they are ready to be screwed down.
Image

Also mounted some lights on the front outside corners of the trailer.
Image

I predrilled the wood only. And these are the 2-3/4 self drilling screws that we're used.
Image

In this picture I capped the exposed 2 X 6's, And I placed a piece of angle iron on top of the wood, I will drill some holes through the angle iron & bolt it to the frame to hold down the wood, the reason I am doing this is so if any of the wood needs replacing in the future the angle can easily removed.
Image

This pic shows the angle iron that was welded on the rear of the trailer to cap & secure the wood down.
Image

The jack has been bolted on and the safety chains have been welded on.
You can also see that the bolt holes have been drilled & bolted, On the angle holding the wood down.
Image

End piece has been painted & taillights have been mounted.
Image

Also mounted the lights on the rear center of the trailer.
Trailer was also taken down too the DMV and registered.
It is now ready for the road.
All that needs to be done now is the tailgate.

The tailgate will most likely be done this week.

Chris
Thanks.

I used RV windows
Image

And I used some automotive trim around the door frame to keep it water tight.(Ordered trim through McMasters It was not cheep but it works great I plan on using it on my new TD build )
Image

I also used a Garge door lock for my locking mechanism, and I picked up a couple of paddle lock hasp and cut off the the part with the hole in it and riveted it to the window, Now when the door is shut from the inside all I have to do is put a pin through the hole in the garage door lock to lock it from the inside and the outside handle is a garage door handle with a key lock,I was able to pick these up at Home Depot and I was able to find 4 all keyed alike 2 for my doors & 2 for my hatch and they we're about half or more then half of the price you would pay at an RV supply house.

I also used a aluminum hinge and some flat aluminum bar to push the hinge out to match the hinge connection point on the window scince the the seal I used made the door stick out almost 3/4 of an inch further then the connection point on the TD, on my new TD build I will not put as many bolts on the hinge itself, I went a little overkill on the connection bolts on my black TD, But I sure know that my hinge will not fall off

There are alot of other pictures on my black teardrop build on my website for anyone to look at and if anyone has any questions or ideas feel free to let me know.
