Coupler rebuild Kit

Postby Ron Dickey » Wed Jun 11, 2008 1:11 pm

Gee, I only got out with the trailer 5 or so times but I did buy a used hitch.
I desided ont to replace the hitch and I could go back to the store and look at the built ones there but here is the question

When you install a Coupler rebuild Kit how far does one tighten the nut. How open should it be when the ball goes one. See below

I just got a new hitch installed behind the Corolla with a 2" ball. the Coupler is a 2" but when I tryed to hook up it did not go so I said what the heck and got the kit. Fulton Performance Products, Inc. from Mosinee, WI
below quote from assembly Instructions

We Men 8) never read the instructions until last ..... it says
" To install ball in Coupler socket and push locking lever to locking postition. Tighten lock nut as far as possible - it will be difficult or impossible to lift the locking lever. Now back off lock nut 1/2 turn, unlock safety lock and lift the locking lever.
Warning... at least 1-1/2 full threads of the locking bolt must be exposed beyond the lock nut after this adjucstment.
etc.... last it said to maintain a snug fit the ball in the coupling, it is nessary to at intervals, to slightly turn the lock nut as may be required to tighten. "

anyone wish to add to that??

At least you got instructions, all I got with my rebuild kit was a picture showing how it went together.

I have not learned to send out pixs that fast but it looks like what you show.
(I am working on shots of SteveB working on his trailer nothing to do with this)

I kept having problems getting the main iron pc over the bolt.
I Paid 15 for it and it was 25 for a new hitch.
returned the kit and got a new hitch sence it is only bolted on.
I found that the old one was rusting. Now I have new for 10 bucks more

I remember a guy looking for ball greese once is that used??
