paint protection that isnt an aluminum plate

I was looking at this as an alternative to the aluminum plate on the front of my RTT..

I like the invisibility aspect going for it and that it can be bought fairly cheaply in bulk.


does this seem to you a viable alternative?

...if you are talking about using it to protect the paint from getting rock chips, etc. then yes, that is what it is for...if you are talking about using it instead of paint for sealing/protecting the wood, I wouldn't advise it.......

How easy is that to apply? I passed a graval truck a few week back, and needless to say, I have buck shot pits all in front of mine.

yes i meant to use it to protect the paint. they have it in larger sheets by size in 8 mil thickness and they have some up to 24x36 in 30 mil thickness.

Now if i knew what a mil was i would fully understand what i just typed.

if properly applied would this really be the cats meow?

loopers, all I can tell ya is that 30 mils is much thicker than 8(well duh)...it is a heavy gage vinyl and designed to protect cars from rock chips...will it work better than diamond plate...I dunno but it won't dent like D-plate will...will it work for you...I dunno, you will havvta decide...if you want total protection, I would recommend a nose bra made with a padded backed vinyl....

A mil is a thousandth of an inch. One common material measured in mils is polyethylene film and when you visited your local hardware store or big box store you might be able to get an idea of how the different thicknesses feel. Your plastic garbage bags are also measured in mils and it's usually stated on the box.
