Newbie asking, "Carpentry course, or cabinetry course?&

I have been planning to take a carpentry course this fall at my local vo-tech school. But now I am wondering if a course in cabinet-making would be more useful in terms of building a TD. Not sure how much the two courses overlap.

I have a little experience with construction (helping with two decks and framing a garage), no real experience with cabinet making.

Opinions?

Robin,

As long as the cabinetry class does not require you to take the carpentry one first, then I would recommend the cabinetry class. You will learn things that will be more useful in building a tear/tiny trailer than just in a basic carpentry class.

I am sure that either class would help you out.

Just remember, I am very close by and will be able to help/answer questions for you too.

A class in either subject would be helpful but in my opinion the Cabinetmaking course would give you better knowledge to build a teardrop. You could also borrow from your local library or purchase "CABINETMAKING & MILLWORK" by Feirer or "MODERN CARPENTRY" by Wagner. The first one was used as a Cabinetmaking text book when I was an apprentice way back when. I own each book and even though the illustrations are a bit old ( in my issues) the information is very helpful. Danny
