Fantastic fan gasket use

I screwed my fan-tastic fan in place last night, using the supplied foam gasket. I really don't care for how it looks though.
Anybody here just gooped their fan directly to the roof, aluminum in my case?

I used the foam gasket. I put the screws in part way, then applied a dab of caulk to the barrel of each screw and set them in.. being sure that some caulk squeezed out from each screw so I knew it was sealed.

The I applied a thin bead of caulk around the perimeter of the foam gasket.

When I tightened the screws, I was careful not to deform the flange on the fan. There are so many screws they do not have to squeeze the gasket that much or that tightly.

It made a very neat installation.

I did exactly like Arne did but I used stainless screws not the white ones supplied with the fan. I did that on both TD's and have had no problems. Danny

That flange is really soft and does distort a bit under each screw. If I back them off it straightens out, but the gasket is so thick the fan stands quite proud of the roof. I was thinking that if I silicone the daylights out of the flange and omit the gasket it will sit dead flat against the skin.
But of course the bottom line is no leaks.

I used the foam gasket and then sealed around it with caulking. It was designed to be installed with the fan so I used it. Many others have as well. Better safe than sorry.

Also, I put caulking in the screw holes and over the top of them.

shoe, we didn't use the gasket...placed vent in position...anchored two corners and predrilled all the screw holes...used SS screws...used auto windshield adhesive/sealer...put a heavy bead on each side of flange...placed vent in position and squirted some sealer in the screw holes...fastened it down and it is good to go.......

MJ, with an installation like that, I wouldn't even think you would need to use screws

Lexel would do it too! Just don't plan on taking it off.
