One more hatch question.

Hi Guys.
Finely got around to cutting the virtical ribs for the galleys hatch .

I plan on using five ,two outside and three in between. The problem I seem to be having is that I have a step where the roof ends , where the hatch lid begins and where the Hinge goes....

I was hopping to find a picture in sdstripper2's index for an idea how the transformation takes place , come up emty at all the places I looked.
Can someone post a picture of the area in question.

I recessed in a 2x4 across all 4 of my vertical ribs. A giant rabbet joint was cut into each rib to accept the 2x4 . You can cut a 3/4 deep rabbet joint in the cross 2x4 to accept part of the rib and a 3/4 rabbet in the top of the rib itsself then glue the hell out of it with the best glue you can get and a couple screws in each rib. I am at home and old what's her name has the internet syphilis detector set so high I can't get to my album pics but if you look you can see several pics of the neked hatch ribs one or two of them may help you to visualize what I am trying to describe.

Thanks Bob. I think I have it figured out..
The problem I think was the bulkhead that seperates the galley fron the living compartment. I believe I had it much too high for the spar to be mounted on top of it correctly.....

The top of my galley wall WAS the spar I used a full 2x4 to give a little extra meat for the hinge and wide enough it would resist the tendency to twist. Get us all some pics we are curious what your up to now !

Actually I would Bob but I have er' covered up with tarps,it's going to rain for the next two days.

BUILDING OUTSIDE ?

Ah the memories started in April of 07 "trip ready " in October and all built in the driveway.

Stored in the driveway in the rain and the snow

When and if it is ever finished I can start over for I am sure the ravages of time and weather will have taken it's toll to the point Chubby will need a face lift.

I'm building in my kitchen making saw cuts on the deck with the trailer in the back yard. Not the best way but the only way at this time. Have been in financial survival mode for a while but almost ready to get back building. Hope your hatch fits and seals the way you want it to.

I'll move her in to the garage in couple of weeks after I get back from one of my bird hunting trips. Or else i'll be starting from scratch again come spring.....

Here's a pic of my section, hope it helps! I had similar questions. My Galley wall was not tall enough by 1/8 of an inch.



I ripped and glued some strips on top from some prestained cut offs I had to fill the gap and it looked great.



After the Masonite "substrate": (still not comfortable with that word). Ignore the side wall, I still need to trim it. (Never do ANYTHING until you are ready to commit)
