Newbi! Building in Australia. Questions!!!

G'day guys,
Just found this site by chance but have been looking for a simple off road trailer that is set up exactly as these fantastically simple Tear trailers are.

some of the finishes you guys are getting is brilliant!!

I am thinking of doing an off road version, also using a wide body as opposed to external guards.

Any one know of anyone that may have done this yet?

Hi Aussidan,I am also new to this site ,I have been visiting for about 2 months or so but this is my first post. I also live in Brisbane and am building an off road teardrop,Think 'Benroy' meets 'Cabin Car' is about as close as I could describe it. I have made the body over the wheels.I will try to get some photos up soon, but the camera is at home and the computer is at work .I think you have found the best site if you are after any info on building your own teardrop,I have found everything I need so far just by searching through the posts. a very clever bunch of people with some very good ideas on here.

I've put up two photos in my personal profile, they are the only ones I could find here at work ,but it will give you a bit of an idea about where I'm at with the build. I will try to get the trailer out into the yard and take some decent shots of the side profile and the hatch area,but i'm in the middle of a clean up and the trailer is at the back of the mess.

also theres a guy in brisbane who runs the aussie teardrop site, Reiner who builds teardrops and sells teardrop parts who seems very helpful

Hello Peter, Marcel and AussieDan, like you guys I'm also a newbie here, Stumbled upon this site while surfing a couple of days ago and have nearly read some of the posts now Havent really started building my tear as yet, still gathering bits while I finish the chassis for my hot rod, that will ultimately be the tow vehicle. Peter, your tear is looking good, how wide is it and where did you find the ally for it? What size is that ally? Hope you dont mind the questions, but it appears hard to get any advice up here in the Bay Thanks guys and no doubt we will all be in the same place at the same time soon, Queensland isnt that big really.

Grazza,I got the ally from 'Austral Wright Metals' in Rocklea,their no. is 32776711. I got .75 mm thickness and laid it over a plywood skin.The trailer has an inside measurment of 194cm wide as that was the length of my mattress so the outside is about 197cm wide all up .
IRat--thanks for the compliment ,but There was no annealing involved at all, I used an angle wich was about 1.5 inches by three eights and it just bent straight over the edge.sorry about the vauge measurments but we use metric over here so the size in inchs is just a guess. sorry to hijack your post dan.

Peter, that corner edge trim just bent like that? What kind of material is it?

IRat, It's an aluminium angle which measures 40mm on the top and goes down the wall 12mm{just less than half an inch}I bought it from Bunnings which would be the same as WalMart I imagine.I'm not sure of the compound ,but it is still quite hard. I tried annealing a little bit of it first but the surface just wanted to crack,I think I had too much heat .I had been stressing about it for weeks ,so I decided to try just bending it ,I pushed it over the contour of the trailer getting close to the right shape ,then bent it some more using my Knee to 'over bend' the shape just a little, then tons of silicone and a stainless self tapping screw every 4 inches and it's not going anywhere.
