anyone done 13 to 16 inch tires on a HF trailer? Fenders?

Hey guys,

I am working on a Cubby build on a 1800#HF frame. (12 inch wheels)

The more photos of teardrops I look at, the more I realize how much I REALLY like big tires and classy fenders. They make the 'TEARDROP LOOK" as much as anything else.

So here is my question. Has anyone put 13, 14, 15, or 16 inch 5 on 4.5 wheels/tires on a Harbor freight frame?

I saw some pretty decent looking tires at Northern Tool. They have a pretty good selection of trailer "stuff"- axels, tongues, tires, etc.

If you did put big tires on, did you run into any problems? if so, what?

I was thinking that mostly, I just want to FINISH my teardrop, but I want it too look nice in the long-run too.

The Harbor Freight fenders and tail lights are all ugly, but they were included with the cost of the kit and I already have them put on. Also, both bolt to the frame of the trailer. That means I could always remove them later, real easy.

Would it make sense to just finish the trailer, use the ugly HF fenders, 12 inch tires, and taillights. Then next summer, put on nice big tires, cool fenders and taillights.

I think that would work, the only thing I am not sure of is how do I build the camper now in such a way to make it easy to add cool fenders later, when I don't know their exact size or where the wholes go?

I am not sure about tailights that way either. Some of the best taillights I have seen are on little posts that come right off the fenders. I love those! Please tell me those DON'T cost WAY more than I think they do.

Any thoughts on this?

I put 14-inchers on mine. Each wheel/tire was $55 new, found them on ebay last winter (sorry, don't have the link anymore). Fenders are part no. 0610 as shown here: http://www.championtrailers.com/FENDERS%20galvanized.htm
Axle is a torsion axle from http://www.southwestwheel.com/sidebar/promo3.htm
Here's one pic, there's more on my website. Just mounted the fenders last weekend, haven't encountered any special problems yet. Still a ways from hitting the road though.
