Chipped paint on the fenders

Postby Bigwoods » Fri Feb 20, 2009 9:00 pm

I noticed after one trip the paint on my fiberglass fenders were chipped. What is the best thing to protect them after painting.

Thanks,

Greg...just leave it in the garage!!! Seriously, there is a clear vinyl mask product that you can overlay on them...fairly pricey. Eddie Miller has used a spray on bed liner ( I believe) on the front of his in a flame design, and I've seen bras for fenders. I have flaps on the back of the pickup...but reality is...they still get chipped up. Some paints are more chip resistant than others, like an Imron, but unfortunately it's going to happen. I always take a load of pics when I first finish the trailer. It's all down hill from there. I figure that they will just have to get a repaint at some point. Doug

You can get a product used in auto refinishing business. Comes in spray bomb form. Called pebble guard. You can get it at any auto parts store.
It's a rubberized texture product but the texture is mild. I'd probably only do the front portion. Comes in black and is paintable or comes in clear to spray right over cured finish.

My trailer came with a product similar to this on the front of the fenders:

I was wondering why the water balloon was getting bigger... and then it hit me.
