Progress on my cubby build - metal roof, wood sides

Hey everyone,

I got some more work on my Cubby.

I finished framing out the inside of the walls with 3/4 inch pine and pink foam.

I put 1/8 birch plywood skin for the right wall and slid it in there to fit. My order got messed up, so I don't have birch for the other wall yet. Instead, I used cardboard for now. (Just as a placeholder, wanted to see what a finished inside would be like.) I figure it's cheap, easy to cut, and replaceable if I screw up.

I started running wiring. I have 14 ga speaker wire to go to the lights and where the fan will be. I will have 10 ga wire in waterproof flexible conduit running underneith from the battery to the fuse box.

Hopefully, I will get the other inside skin in and then I can start working on spars.

I have 1/8 oak plywood that I want to use for the side exterior skin. I e-mailed Ira and he told me what he was using as spar varnish to protect it. I think I will do something similar.

I want to have a painted metal roof. To anyone who has done that: What metal is used? Just aluminum, or something different? Any special things to know about painting it?

Also, if I do a painted metal roof with wood sides, what recommendation would you guys have for decent looking trim? I am following the Kuffel Creek Cubby plans, but I don't think angle aluminum will look real nice with woods sides. Just paint it to match the roof? Any wood trim that wont just rot away? Any ideas?

Thanks,

-Ben
still no idea what i'm doing...

I used factory painted corrugated metal from an above ground pool wall. Two seasons on it so far and its working out fine. This stuff lasts for years on a pool, it should last as long on a teardrop.
