Fenders for partially recessed wheels?

How about VW Beetle rear wings, They are about 5" wide at the front edge, you would have to trim the rear edge, but do look good when fitted.

The plan is to glass a layer or two of heavy weave cloth - 12-15 lbs. Steve Frederick has some even heavier. Then several coats of epoxy resin. Don't have any data on what to expect on rock damage. I wouldn't think it would receive any substantial wounds. And I am planning to paint the surface with an automotive paint and spray the bottom with something like a bed liner.
