I think it's a rule of thumb on any of those type of tools that the sharper it is the more usable it is and good grained material is a big plus. I have a drawknife and when I bought it, it was a piece of crap, it wasn't a high dollar quality tool. After some considerable sharpening and fine tuning, it became a very usable tool. I only use it for creating rustic type outdoor furniture however. Power is better! Doug
