Galley Hinges- getting a bit confused

Postby BILLYL » Mon Oct 03, 2005 6:51 am

Howdy -

Can someone please assist.

I am building the Cubby (well kind of) and in the PLANS for the hatch they call for a offset of 1/4in on the top as well as the bottom. When I start reading the posts about the hinges others have used I find that there are basically two suppliers - Lil Bear and Johnston. It seems that one of them has the necessary 1/4in clearance and the other does not.

Before I start making the hatch which hinge would work.

Thanks

Bill

Bill,

I built the Cubby and used the hinge from RW Johnson. It is black, or at least that's the one that he sent me. I don't know if he has another or not. I have some pictures in my Yahoo photos, but they are not real clear about the hinge.

Hope this helps

bill, i used johson hing with a quarter inch offset. it worked great. a heavy duty hing. the offset was taken care of by a peace of 1 1/2"x1/4" alum. flat bar. go to my photo album page 3 you will see what i did. if i build another tear i would use the same hing. i purchase one of those other hing and it was way to lite. yes mine was black.

Call him at (530) 878-0407. You may have to leave a message and he will call you back. I'm sure that he still sells them.
