My camper is a flat back, off road, box lookin thing. That being said, I'm doing a top hinge "gull-wing" style door in the rear with a hurricane hinge. That way, if we need to hop in or out in the rain, our bed and myself, won't get wet!

I had the same question at the beginning of my build too, that is a good sign! Question everything, and build it your own way using the feedback you get from others, your own research, and making your own call! My thought was exactly as yours because the door wasn't aesthetic with the flat hinge on the front and the curve on the rear side, it almost begged to be turned around!

I finally did it the usual way when I imagined myself laying down and wanting to get out. I reach over an the natural location was to have the handle at my side, not at my head. Also it would be more comfortable to toss your feet out where the opening is, rather than toss my feet where the hinge and the smallest opening for the door was, so that is what finally made my decision.

Gull wings have been done. Here's one I found in the albums:

Pocket doors... I can thing of so many challenges I don't know where to start. I'm sure it's doable, but weather proofing them would be the first issue. Figure it out and show us how it's done!
