When covering the roof with 1/8 in ply should you epxoy the inside surface or will that make it to stiff to bend.. If not epoxy do you think spar varnish would be a good idea ?

RD, when we built our first tear, we prefinished the interior liner with white pickling covered with 3 coats of clear, indoor, acrylic urethane(Polycrylic from Minwax)...we didn't have a problem bending into place........

It will put the finish in compression, which shouldn't be a problem. On the out side though... that's a different story...the finish would be put into tension, which could be more problematic.

I think what they are saying is that assuming you are not using CPES, the epoxy won't hurt the inside of the curve, where you're compressing the wood; but, that you should wait to epoxy the outside until after the wood is curved and attached because that part is being sort of stretched? (Please chime in if I'm misunderstanding.)

(If you're using CPES, I would wait to do either inside or out until the wood is curved and attached because it seeps into the wood quite far and might hinder the curving process. Frankly, I'd wait with either type of epoxy.)

Yes, though you could CPES the inside before you bend, otherwise you would get a little less penetration as after bending the wood on the inside is more compact (oposite on the outside).
