black vers white aluminum sheeting for heat

Postby Pattersob » Tue Dec 22, 2009 9:19 pm

Hi I have fianlly started after 5 years of just talking about it.The frame is built the walls are cut out and I am attaching the floor in the morning.

What I am wondering about is the heat absorption of black vers white aluminum siding.I am insulating the walls, the floor and the sides. I would, like black because it looks really sharp but I am worried a bit about the heat.
Any thoughts from those who might have had both.

Thanks

Thomas can answer that for ya. He used black on his. If you've insulated the roof you should be fine.

I suspect geography might come into play here as well. Black isn't a good color for clothes, cars or teardrops in Florida, but could be beneficial other places.

I am planning on using black painted aluminum siding as well, at least on the sides. I have a source for black, or for that matter, several different colors of sign aluminum. It's .040 sheet and is exactly what I wanted. Just curious as to what you were using.....

I would do what was wanted regardless of color...if insulated, the effect is marginalized and can be moderated with adequate ventilation and since you rarely sleep in it during the day, it really doesn't matter what color it is at night...my present tear has VERY dark sides and the top will eventually be painted black...my couple of cents worth..........

We did both on our latest build. White top, and black sides. Look great, and I don't think it made ant difference in the inside temp.
